I'm sure these are all issues that can easily be fixed were we to have someone with the most basic Windows administration experience but that is not the nature of this company.

I had him sending text messages to his email address, which could be a PITA due to the combination of Spectrum's email system not working properly, issues on his Windows 10 computer, and issues with everything syncing properly with his iPhone. I'm sure that is all very possible from Windows 10 but I wan't able to use whatever the Messages equivalent is to do it.
So the goal is for him to be able to do estimates by speaking into the phone and then it will get texted to me where I can copy/paste it into QB to make estimates. The owner has an iPhone and uses the speech to text feature for all his texting. Another very important reason for me wanting this is for Messages because it is quicker for me to input/output information to the owner and employees in the field when I can just copy and paste in Messages.
From a tech support standpoint it makes more sense for me since I don't know anything about Windows 10 beyond using QB, Word, and Outlook. This is very much a case of me just wanting to use a Mac and the owner knows this. (And a backup scheme but that might be outside of the scope here.) From personal experience for a basic office machine, all I can think of is enough spec to run a VM in case I need Windows for something. If you can think of other uses that would help future proof machine a bit more. You’re basically asking for a machine to run Safari here so any modern machine will work. In any case there’s deals here and there on either machine btw, I vaguely recall seeing something about $300 off iMacs and $100 off Mac minis.Īs far as iMacs I’d just get a 5K config for the extra screen space, SSD.and everything else (any CPU, 8GB or more RAM, whatever GPU) is basically good enough for what you said, so far. My boss is a PC guy and only by necessity and knows nothing about Macs other than I've been a Mac guy my whole life.
This will be my first office computer ever. The owner of the company told me I could spend up to $2,500 on a Mac for me to use at the office. I have never used QuickBooks online but the small company I work for will be migrating from the PC desktop version real soon now.
